Is Your AC Performing Poorly?

Texas summers can be brutal, and if you’re a Fort Worth resident, you know that the intense heat of the day can cause your home to become uncomfortable very quickly if your air conditioning is not functioning properly. If your AC unit seems to be running nonstop and you’re not feeling any cooler in your home, it may be time to call a professional HVAC contractor to get your air conditioning serviced.

However, before you pick up the phone, there are a couple of troubleshooting tips you can try, and in today’s blog, we’ll take a look at the most beneficial ones. When all else fails, don’t hesitate to contact the professional team at Arthur Hagar Air Conditioning and Heating. We have more than 65 years of experience in the HVAC industry, and we’d love to help you out! Call 817-478-1122 today!

Check Your Filter

The air filters on your HVAC unit play a very important role in the air quality in your home and the efficiency of your unit. They also ensure that the inner components of your HVAC system stay clean. When these filters are dirty, your AC unit may not be getting the airflow that it needs to operate properly and efficiently cool air. If you have a central AC unit and it’s been more than a month since you changed the filter, now might be a good time to swap it out.

Review Thermostat Settings

Check to ensure your thermostat is set to the proper temperature. If you share a home with others, it’s possible someone adjusted the temperature. Programmable thermostats make controlling your indoor air temperature a breeze, whether you want it warmer or cooler. If you haven’t yet invested in one, now might be the perfect time to do so. Check out our selection of Trane thermostats and give us a call today to schedule installation.

Inspect the Area Around Your AC Unit

When was the last time you paid a visit to your outdoor air compressor for your central AC? If it’s been a while, it’s possible that trees, plants, or other foliage is crowding out the compressor and not allowing it to get the airflow it needs to operate efficiently. For optimal performance, we recommend making sure there’s at least two feet of space on all sides of the compressor and at least five feet of clearance above it.

Check Your Registers

This might seem like a no-brainer, but if your HVAC vents are closed, dirty, or otherwise obstructed, they might not be able to push out the cool air that’s necessary to adequately cool your home. It’s beneficial to vacuum your registers every once in awhile to remove dust and other potential obstructions. It’s also a good idea to make sure there are no pieces of furniture blocking the registers.

Inspect Window and Door Seals

If you’ve checked all of the items we’ve reviewed so far and your air conditioning still doesn’t seem to be cooling your home, it might be worthwhile to check the weather strips and seals around all of the windows and doors in your home. Improperly sealed windows and doors can allow hot air to enter your home while the cool, comfortable air escapes. Weatherstripping and sealant are available at many home improvement stores and may be just the quick and inexpensive fix you need.
