7 Questions to Ask When Replacing Your HVAC System

1. What size system do I need?

SEER is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating of any cooling system. It measures the unit’s cooling output against the amount of energy it uses. The rating should be at least 13. You can also look for HSPF – Heating Seasonal Performance Factor – on any heat pumps. HSPF scores should be at least 7.7. Systems with higher SEER and HSPF ratings will cost more upfront, but they will save you on operating costs down the road.
6. Are there any rebates or tax credits for installing a new system?
You might be able to get money back for improving the energy efficiency of your home with a new heating or cooling system. Federal tax credits can go as high as $500 or more, depending on the equipment you choose. This might help cover the cost of a unit with a higher SEER rating!
